Antwerp 2 > Brabo Statue Photo
In the middle of the Market there's a statue of Brabo, the Roman soldier who, according to the legend, killed the giant Druon Antigoon. According to the story the giant cut the hand of unwilling toll payers and threw it into the Scheldt. Brabo eventually killed the giant and also cut his hand, which he threw into the river. Midden op de Grote Markt staat een standbeeld van Brabo, de Romeinse soldaat die volgens de legende de reus Druon Antigoon doodde. Volgens het verhaal hakte de reus de hand van onwillige tolbetalers af en gooide deze in de Schelde. Brabo doodde uiteindelijk de reus en hakte eveneens zijn hand af, die hij in de rivier gooide. De naam Antwerpen zou volgens deze uitleg van "Hand werpen" komen.
