In general the roadconditions in France are good, but some roads in the mountains are tricky. For most highways you have to pay toll, like on the famous North-South highway "Autoroute du Soleil". Especially during the summer there are long queues for the toll-gates, and the worst day is the so called black saturday in July.
De toestand van de Franse wegen is over het algemeen goed, soms in bergachtig gebied van wat mindere kwaliteit. De snelwegen zijn vaak tolwegen, zoals de bekende Noord-Zuid route "Autoroute du Soleil". Vooral in de zomermaanden is het hier vaak lang wachten voor de tolpoortjes, met name op de bekende zwarte zaterdag in juli.

France is a country where many Europeans love to spend their holidays and that's why there is plenty of accommodation. In the southern Mediterranian area there are many many campsites, but also apartments and hotels can be found here. In the skiing areas you'll find mostly hotels, but actually it's no problem at all to find the right accommodation in the entire country.
Frankrijk is een geliefd vakantieland bij vele europeanen en daarom is er wat accommodatie betreft keus genoeg. In de zuidelijke gebieden aan de Middellandse Zee overheersen de campings, maar ook appartementen en hotels zijn hier volop te vinden. In de wintersport gebieden vind je met name veel hotels, maar eigenlijk is het vinden van geschikte accommodatie in het gehele land geen probleem.
> Particularities | Bijzonderheden
The 14th of July (14 Juillet) is a national holiday. the French celebrate the taking of the Bastille in French Revolution. They love this holiday and celebrate it with lots of fireworks. You should really try to be here on this day once. A nice place for your Sylvester party might be the capital: Paris. Thousands of people are on the street, especially on Champs Elysées. For the best fireworks you should not go to the Eifel Tower, but to Place de la Concorde.
Op 14 juli (14 Juillet) herdenken de Fransen de bestorming van de Bastille in de Franse revolutie. Dit wordt uitbundig gevierd met op veel plaatsen schitterend vuurwerk. Het is leuk om dit feest een keer mee te maken. Oud en nieuw vieren in de hoofdstad Parijs is eveneens een bijzondere belevenis. Duizenden mensen zijn op straat, met name op de Champs Elysées. Voor het mooiste vuurwerk moet je echter niet bij de Eiffeltoren, maar op de Place de la Concorde zijn.
> Highlights
At the Côte d'Azur the Harbour and Old Center of Nice are definate mustsees. Make sure you also don't miss the picturesque village of Port Grimaud and legendary Saint Tropez. When you have time, definately make a beeline to the impressive Gorges du Verdon.
In Parijs the Louvre, both the interior and exterior, are truely impressive. Naturally there are other highlights not to be missed in the city of love: the white Sacré Coeur, on its hilltop, the picturesque Place du Têtre and of course the Notre Dame, right in the middle of the Seine river. The Eiffel Tower, covered with millions of lights, garantees a romantic start of the evening and shop-a-holics definately have to visit the Galleries La Fayette.
In the Ardèche there's plenty to see and do for a couple of weeks. Picyuresque villages, like Balazuc, Cruas and Labeaume lie scattered in a wonderful landscape. There are some great tours to do by car, like along the Gorges de l'Ardèche or through endless sunflower fields or lavender fields. Who likes shopping and great food should visit one of the weekmarkets, like the one in Aubenas.
The Languedoc-Rousillon region also has a lot to offer on cultural and natural sights. Most impressive we found the Medieval city of Carcassonne.
Aan de Côte d'Azur zijn de haven en het oude centrum van Nice zeker een bezoekje waard. Zorg dat je ook het pitoreske dorpje Port Grimaud niet mist en het legendarische Saint Tropez. Als de tijd het toelaat is het zeker aan te bevelen om een dagtrip te maken naar de indrukwekkende Gorges du Verdon.
In Parijs is het Louvre, zowel van buiten als van binnen, bijzonder indrukwekkend. Uiteraard mogen ook de andere hoogtepunten bij een bezoek aan de stad van de liefde niet ontbreken: de witte Sacré Coeur, bovenop de heuvel, de schilderachtige Place du Têtre en natuurlijk de Notre Dame, midden in de Seine. De Eiffel Toren biedt 's avonds, met zijn miljoenen lichtjes versierd, een romantische aanblik en wie van shoppen houdt mag zeker de Galleries La Fayette niet overslaan.
In de Ardèche is genoeg te beleven om je een paar weekjes te vermaken. Schilderachtige dorpjes, zoals Balazuc, Cruas en Labeaume liggen in een prachtige landschap. Met de auto zijn er mooie routes te rijden, zoals langs de Gorges de l'Ardèche of langs eindeloze velden vol zonnebloemen of lavendel. Wie van shoppen en lekker eten houdt moet zeker één van de vele weekmarkten bezoeken, zoals die in Aubenas.
Het departement Languedoc-Rousillon heeft ook veel te bieden op het gebied van cultuur en natuur. Het meest indrukwekkend vonden wij de Middeleeuwse stad Carcassonne.
